Accompanying the sales decline, total manufacturing output fell 4.5% to 989,168 vehicles. The sustained downturn highlights the mounting operational pressures the Japanese automaker faces, particularly within highly competitive regional markets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">China remains the primary source of friction. Sales for the company\u2019s Toyota and Lexus brands plummeted 20% in the country during September, driven by structural shifts in the world&#8217;s largest automotive market. Local manufacturers continue to aggressively scale the production of low-cost, software-reliant electric vehicles. Strong demand elsewhere is keeping the company steady. Sales ticked up 1.8% in Japan and jumped 8.6% in North America, thanks to a massive resurgence in hybrid popularity. Buyers who are hesitant to go fully electric are flocking to gas-electric hybrids instead.
