Vietnamese conglomerate Vingroup is betting big on the regional EV market with a USD 500 million investment to build a new manufacturing plant. Starting with an initial annual capacity of 200,000 vehicles, the facility will supply both local drivers and international buyers. It is a major leap forward for Vingroup’s VinFast brand. By adding this new site to its existing overseas factories in India and Indonesia, the carmaker is aggressively cementing its footprint across the region.
Vingroup executives recently sat down with officials from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) to map out the investment. To sweeten the deal, the DTI put the country’s best financial perks on the table. Chief among them are the aggressive tax breaks available under the newly minted CREATE MORE Act. The government also promised to cut through red tape, offering fast-tracked regulatory approvals via the Green Lanes initiative (Executive Order No. 18). If the deal goes through, it will give a massive boost to the nation’s automotive sector and supercharge its push into green mobility.
If the deal closes, shovels could be in the ground by early 2027, putting the plant on track for completion within 18 months. Crucial details are still under wraps. Neither Vingroup nor the government has named a specific location for the facility, and both sides are staying quiet on exactly how many local jobs the project will create.
